About Me
The Person Behind Growix
A project born out of frustration, built with engineering precision.
The Maker
Michael
Electronics Engineer · Systems Engineer · Programmer · Berlin
12 years in Amsterdam gave me a deep appreciation for the plant — and a clear eye for what good growing technology should look like. When I moved to Berlin I brought both with me.
As an electronics engineer, I know the difference between something that was built properly and something that was shipped quickly. Growix is the former.
The Origin
I owned one of the then-popular compact grow boxes — hardware that looked promising on paper but disappointed in practice. No real support, hard technical limits, and a team that eventually walked away from the project entirely to run a restaurant chain.
When the hardware was abandoned, I had two options: accept the limitations or build something better. As an electronics engineer, systems engineer and programmer with a Raspberry Pi and a 3D printer, the choice was obvious.
Growix is a complete ground-up redesign. Every part drawn and engineered from scratch — not a clone, but an evolution of what the concept could have been if the original makers had stayed committed. The box is taller for more headroom. The lighting is fully custom with individually adjustable settings. The filter path is recalculated for higher throughput. And the system adds an integrated scale, nutrient dosing and a REST API that talks to Home Assistant.
Growix Club grew out of the engineering work: if I'm going to document how it all works anyway, it might as well be useful to others who are serious about indoor cultivation.
Vision & Mission
Engineering First
Every decision on this site — every article, every tool, every recommendation — comes from hands-on experience, not affiliate interests. If something doesn't work in practice, it doesn't appear here.
No Black Boxes
The goal is to understand what's actually happening inside your grow — VPD, PPFD, root physiology, irrigation logic. Not just "set it and forget it", but knowing why it works.
Open Knowledge
Everything documented here — code, STL files, formulas, build guides — is freely available. The Patreon hub adds community and exclusive builds, but the fundamentals stay open.
Built to Last
No cloud dependency, no subscription, no abandoned hardware. Growix runs locally, fully autonomous — and will keep running whether or not this site exists.
